My tray had a recessed lip [upstands] so that the tiles fitted over it and into the dish of the tray.

We had to cut back the plasterboard to fit the tray in place.

We Bal bonded and tanked the plasterboard and tray and then tiled straight over the top of the lip and deep into the dish itself.

Once tiled you cant see or tell the tray has a lip.

But I appreciate not all trays come with the tile lip

Hi Mike welcome along, i use plaster board most of the time no probs with it if the corner area is square and stud wall not running out push the tray up to plaster board, if the tray has upstands you may need to cut out for the tray so the tiles sit on the tray surface, dont forget to pull back the protective film off the tray sides only before you start tiling etc hope this helps good luck.
