HELP! I'm struggling drilling thru 8mm q-rock tiles?

hello there a bit of an issue I'm having trying to drill thru 8mm thick q-rock slate tiles, Each time I try to drill a hole the drill bit either burns out or the tile cracks CAN YOU HELP???? I'm looking for some advise on techniques ect cheers
