Glass mosiac border

I have hit a bit of a snag on a job im doing at the min and would be grateful if people could give me their opinion on what to do for the best!
Anyway... i have tiled my room up to the border and started putting borde ron, however the border is about half the width of the tile. i tried putting quite a thick skim of addy on but with it being mosiac it showed any imperfection and looked crap so i took that down. Any suggestions on what i could do to get it level? tiles are 6mm and mosiac are 3-4mm
I have tried using an off cut of a cheap tile but the border then comes out 2much, typical! I was thinking of cutting some strips of thin ply to try and get a flat surface, if i did this could i put ply up with addy or would you put some screws in?

I use a piece of wood notch out the ends which will give a depth gauge, Put addy on the wall and run gauge, The notch end on the tiles run along the tiles which should give you a smooth transition on the addy. Hope you can understand this

Yeah i know what you mean whitebeam, good idea mate! So would you say it would be better for me to cut tiles the same width as border put them in, then tile above, then do as you say, then insert border so i will have the correct depth or is it just as effective doing it with only the bottom half tiled?
Im away for some shut-eye now so forgive me if i dont reply to any more posts but will check in the morning to see if i have any respones.

spot on..use off cuts to hold the tiles up and then when set use whitebeams method...( well a few of us use it.🙂..)...and it will be job done......

As Dave says with the off cuts, Then use the method I described between the two tiles so the mosaic are flush when fixed

I used the 'Whitebeam' method the other week. It makes sense and it certainly makes life easier. I bought a cheap plastic spreader from Topps, 99p, and cut the template from that. Worked a treat.

Me too, i solved exact same problem on walls and floors, in fact i still have the wooden thingy from last time kicking about in a dark corner of the van........TA DA

I used a thicker or lighter length of notch,notched trowel depending on the thickness of the mosiac,lightly set the mosiac in place using a grout float off the main tile as a guide
