hiya colour, initially i admit i was using it for mixing small buckets of addy,,that stopped after a battery burnt out after a few months,,,then another battery died and this time the chuck/torque has failed and the drill just completely stopped yesterday....looked into new batteries but they are about 60 pounds each so i thought a new drill would be better,,its an 18v drill it was a deal for 99.99 with 3 batteries and charger i bought it about a year ago

I don't think makita are at fault here nearly all the major brands now make a drill in the £100 bracket and none of them stand up as a main drill, regardless of the fact most of them normally have hammer drill settings most are only good for cordless screw drivers on a day to day basis. I have a set of the 'cheaper' makita drills for kitchen fitting (they fit inside 300mm units) and whilst i do chuck them a bit of abuse now and again with mixing bits of addy and plaster they really aren't up to it day to day, so sort of expect a short life span. If I was you and wanted a genersal purpose drill them I would stick my hand in my pocket and go for something with a bit more guts, if not then I would stick to the £100 range and expect to change it every year or 2:thumbsup:

I'm now due for some more drills and I think i'll get another set of £100 bracket Makita's and a Metabo for my main drill

I'v never had any problems with makita, drills both elec and batt, jigsaws, sanders etc.
Mind you my two battery ones are 18v 3.0ah li-ion and are superb.
