do you always shape the grout?

Hi chaps, first post except for course feedback.

Went for a look round topps at lunch time and saw the grout shaping tools.
Is grout shaping something you pros do all the time, or is it normally a flick down the grout line with the sponge when washing off?

Hi, if you want to shape the grout use your finger, also you don't wont to use the sponge as this could remove to much grout, always clean tiles at 45 degrees.

If in doubt stick your finger in. Thats got me in alot of trouble before!

When cleaning up we were shown to flick the sponge gently along the grout line, I suppose to shape it slightly.

So, am I correct that you should not leave grout flush to the level of the tile and should always shape?!?

I would not use your finger.

'Grouters finger' is very painful ask any new tilers trainee

The only times I ever use grout shapers, is when the customer requests something specific. Other than that, I normally achieve a perfect finish with my sponge float. I weat nitril gloves while grouting, so my hands are kept somewhat dry. I only ever use my fingers when there are small gaps in the grout; dabbing or redistributing some grout with a gloved finger.

Hows Life going. well i always get a nice finish on the grout by using my sponge just a quick rub over not applyin alot of pressure. i find that it does the trick.

I'm with you......sponge works fine( on walls), trick is not to have it over wet.......and i use a washboy on floors.........

And grouters finger is bloody sore............for days. And they glow in the dark
