Once dropped tile into a bath, job for a builder, I owned up straight away, luckily bath only cost £80, however the plumber tried charging the builder £150 to come back and re fit ( on top of cost of bath ) Luckily for me, the plumber had previously made a total mess of the walls chopping out for pipe work ( which I had to make good ), I counter charged him £150 for my time, so only ended up paying for new bath :8:

we dont have insurance schemes for tilers work so i paid the cost to rip up 100m2 ,new tiles and the cost to relay them. the job was through a tile shop who owed me a stack of money and wanted things "resolved" , at the time i was getting the bulk of my work via this shop and i was basically cornered, so i told them to pay him out and get rid of him. this was 4 years ago and not one tile was ever replaced and he has since sold the house:do you think i was set up!!!?

What exactly was wrong with the job ?
100 sqm a lot to replace ? :dizzy2:

mainly in one room,at sunset , the shadows made the slumping look bad ,lots of big floor to cieling windows facing sunset ,and around 5m2 of tiles needed to come up to make it perfect but the ******* wouldnt allow me back into the house and the carpet salesman from my ex retailer decided it should all come up, expensive lesson learned: check level of concrete ,use best glue,at least 12mm trowel and dont allow carpet salesmen to comment on workmanship!!

by law the customer has got to give you the chance to ammend any mistakes! i would seriously look into this to recoup any money you have lost!

Went to a really nice old couples house to do some plumbing work in loft etc etc,so when i`d finished asked me to book them in to replace some old taps in there bathroom.also asked if i could get them the taps, was a 1960 bathroom suite the type with square holes in basin/bath the taps also have square bases to locate them which was always set in with putty as well which over time sets them in like concrete, usually lots of little tricks to get the taps out if your careful ie; a bit of heat and a sharp screwdriver to just scrape enough out.always tell customers about problems with these really old bathroom suites etc before i start, done tons of these and never had a problem but this time OMG they was a nightmare no matter what i did they wouldn`t budge, ended up cracking the basin so told customer what had happened bless em they was really nice and said they felt sorry for me and all the messing about i`d had,so told them i would buy them a new basin but they wouldn`t have that and that they wanted to pay for it but i wasn`t having that so i bought them a new basin and pedistal, and it wasn`t a cheap crappy one it was an ideal standard one which if they`d bought would of cost them approx £250 but all in i payed £140 with my trade discount,so set about taking old one out and low and behold no tiles behind the old basin was large cut out in tiles and the old tiling was crap,so asked if they`d got some old tiles bearing in mind these are from 1960 no was the reply but then the old guy said lets go and have a look in my shed turned out that he`d framed 2 or 3 to make cup stands or somat like that years and years ago, bonus so i ripped the frames of and used them to tile the wall behind basin went back a bit later to grout and refit new basin,so when i`d finished went and got them to have a look and they said it was lovely and was really pleased with it and that it even looked better than the original so what with labour and costs etc etc a costly mistake,oh and the bath taps was that bad i`d tryed every thing and tool under the sun from armeg tap spanners to a long reach socket and a long socket bar and lots of force in the end i had to cut them off with my dremmel with the cutting disc attachment went through a few discs tho.got some other work from them and recomendations aswell.

Good on you for going the extra mile for your customers. I've been in situations like that where I knew that no one else would have done the work and cared as much as I did, but I had to see it through to the end.

Leatherface

one time I dropped the staple gun :incazzato: on the tub, and a cheap POS it was, and the damn glaze blew off in a huge chunk. What could I do...I just drove right down to Home Depot and fortunately they had one in stock that matched perfectly. I bought it and had it installed within the hour.

Another time, I dropped a piece of tile on a fiberglass whirlpool tub. I found a company to come a do a repair in place, and the customers were cool with me and didn't make a fuss even though the repair was still slightly visible.
