Can MDF be tiled over?

Hi.

I have 18mm green sheets of 8 x 4 MDF on my floor, can this be tiled over?

I would overboard it with cement boards first..

Thanks, I'd do that but the mdf runs into a wet floor tray which has been taped & tanked. I'm thinking that I may need to overboard with 4mm ply up to the tray?

Thanks, but what's the problem with using 4mm ply on top of the 18mm stuff I already have? No more ply will be too thick I think (8mm or so I believe)

You can get 6mm cement boards...........think you can get 4mm marmox boards too...

Of course you can tile over MDF. I know loads of folks who have tiled their shower walls which were MDF.... Usually at least twice 😉

These are Caber Deck boards you are referring to,
As stated over board with 6mm Hardie backer board as long as the floor is solid & deflection free.
