Hi john c and welcome to tilersforums.com!

:welcome:to the forum

i would tend to think of dusty substrate or tiles, what kind of adhesive and trowel depth have you used, did you press the tiles down or back skim them?

simple questions but one may give us an answer:thumbsup:

brazilian nightmare

at first i thought it was an accident involving a razor or pair of clippers....................lol:lol:

:welcome: So the adhesive didn't stick to the back of the slate!
But did the adhesive stick to the concrete substrate?
Name the 2 types of adhesive

welcome to the forum John, as you can see they are queuing up to answer your question lol

Hello and welcome..

Did you wipe the tiles clean of dust and did you back butter to create a strong bond.?

BOTACT flexible , and PANABOND C 13 , were the 2 adhesives used , the floor was primed and dust free ..the back of the slate was not particularly dusty . What ye wont believe is that the slates corners have curled upwards slightly . The bed was trowled to 12mm and the tile pasted evenly. It seemes as if the slate has reacted to the adhesive and curled upwards . both adhesives have never let me down before and have stuck solid to the screed.

The slate is black . 30% of them have a bow of 1.5 to 2 mm at the centre . they are 900cm * 600cm very scarey lads . And laid brickbond .

I have seen this happen with green marble and am under the impression it happens with stones with a high copper content, i think you may have to seal the backs of the stone before fitting or use a non cement based adhesive

Thanks Galaxy ,makes sense, was considering priming tiles ,Still nervous ,underfloor heating .. very big but very thin 10mm .Iem not aware of any non cement based floor adhesives , i must enquire.
