Black Polished Porcelain stains, HELP!

Hi all,

My brother in law has just laid 18m2 400mm x 400mm black polished porcelin tiles in my kitchen, but where they have been walked on in trainers, not overly dirty just bit of dust its marked the tile and i cant get it off, its not like a stain as such its as if its imprinted on the tile, there's a fair few other marks as well, I've been back down the tile shop and they said they should have been sealed before being layed but they never told me that. If worse comes to worse I think they'll pay for them if they need to come up but thats really last resort. Does anybody know anything that would get rid of the marks, i tried a porcelin cleaner but it didnt do a thing. Would a floor polisher work? Or a stronger cleaner? There not grouted yet.

yes they should have been sealed.I am sure fila do a product.i will try and find it for you.

Do the tiles have a transit wax on them..?...

Dave you'll have to bare with me I'm not to clued up in terms of tiling not my fortay, what do you mean by 'transit wax'?

Some polished porcelain tiles have a transit wax on them to prevent stains etc whilst in transit ..say from china...


Did the tiles have a high gloss from the start...like out of the box..?

Not overly glossy as I remember when I took the sample home I cleaned it with glass cleaner to see how much it would clean up. But say that it did have the transit wax surely it would be wrong to seal them before laying?

Deffo seems like you have a transit wax....polished porcelain is like a mirror unless it has a protective wax on...and sealing with a penetrating sealer will not work.

Lithofin do a remover called Abra clean..this removes the transit wax and allows a penetrating sealer to seal the porcelain surface and thus allows easier cleaning and that high gloss to be achieved..

A general wax remover isn't the same as this transit wax....needs a grainy remover to shift it...nano scrub i believe does the same..

super I'll try the Abra Clean hopefully will do the trick, just another thing why wouldn't a basic turps/paint thinners work?

Dave i've just checked what my local tile store in terms of what they stock they sell Lithofin products but not Abra Clean specificly they do sell lithofin stainaway would this achieve the same end product the description sounds similar, if not I'll order some Abra off the net. Also if I do get them clean what would you suggest to seal the tiles with. Would you seal them before grouting and after or just after grouting. Cheers again

Dave, I got the abra clean as suggested, it's got 80% of the marks off and they now shine but there is still area's where you can see trainer marks (imprint of the sole) i've followed the instructions to the word. Any suggestions leave the abr on for longer? specifies 10mins on the packaging, or keep reapplying i'm starting to wonder whether to rip the lot up.

Dave, what is the order of procedure with these polished porcs?
1. Abra clean to remove transit wax
2. seal before laying or before grouting or both?
3. Might they need a 3rd seal after grouting?

Seal before laying if your a dirty tile setter lol.
If you work clean lay then seal twice then grout.

If you try seal more than twice the tile most likley wont take any more sealer up and it will stay on the surface making it cloudy, bit of a bugger to get off then.

Gents another question, i've got a bit of high gloss paint on the tiles, the florr was covered but a bit sneaked through the covers. I can't shift the marks i've tried abra clean which removes most of the marks but still leaves a light stain.

Any ideas???

Could try Aquamix Sealer & Coating Remover.

Hi

Try Astonish oven and cookware cleaner, its a paste in a tub you can buy from most supermarkets, using a non metal scourer. Try this on a small area first, needs a bit of cleaning off, but it works for me.

Hi swiss, yes they shoul have been sealed first .what you need to do is to get some fila porcelain cleaner and clean it well,then let it dry.after this seal it .then grout it ,again after grouting you will need to cleen itagain .then the final seal with a fine roller,well that is what i like to use.hope this helps.
