Hi Monty, it's certainly a big domestic job..is it a big room or a series of rooms?.. only ask because of amount of cuts you may have to do if it's a series of rooms which could affect your price..if it's one room you will prob need expansion joints for that m2..also, is it really necessary to slc..mixing up/pouring enough slc to cover 27m2 before it starts to set will be a challenge.. can't comment on your materials price as i don't know your quantities/what prices your buying at..your labour charges seem fine to me though...

I don't do floor screeding or have the gear to gut 800x800 tiles monty so i couldn't price it. but if you can get your estimate that's great, i just think that if someone was spending 5k on tiling i would have thought they'd be buying better tiles that bq. (although i have b+q 600x600 polished porcelian in my kitchen but that's only 7 sq mtrs). gl i hope you get the job.

Hi Davey

Yes its 1 big square conservatory floor, and yes its necessary to slc as the screed is not perfectly flat and i would imagine with the size of the tiles it will need to be 100% flat, I've never self leveled a floor before so not to sure what you mean it will be a challenge, does it go of really quickly or something?

Cheers.

oh and where did you get 27m2 from?

I've not got a cutter to deal with these tiles either. I normally charge 35m2 for tiles that need sealing, but thought i would put a extra sky diver on the meterage to put towards a cutter.

cheers mate:thumbsup:

Hi Davey

Oh my God..not only do I need to wear glasses when using the pc, I'm also making up numbers..:mad2: sorry Monty..slc may sound easy but it's not as it can start drying before it's levelled if not done right, leaving the floor as unlevel as it was before you started. sWe's done some good guides which talks about slc, which might be some help...

good job Monty,i hope you get it and just work cleanly with those tiles as they stain very easily and i recommend dusting them down first then sealing then fixing and another seal, thats what i do with these tiles and this is the best method i have found. If you dont seal before fixing then you run the risk of staining them with any adhesive you may get on the face of them, also make sure to seal the sides.aAll the best pal.

Sorry I disappeared! I also suspect that a B&Q customer is likely to be hurting at 5k for the install. I'd probably drop the price to reflect the total area and also the fact that it's square tiles in a square room.
I'd advise help with lifing and shifting and mixing etc.

SLC - Cheaper SLCs can be difficult to work with. (I'd recommend BAL multibase.) Trick is to not overwork them with the trowel - big sweeping arcs with your trowel, not spreading too thin and overworking it, otherwise you'll leave trowel marks. Spiky rollers as used by the Karndean boys are also good to use. See sWe's guide - it's really useful.

You should also take into account the warmth that may be in the conservatory - even at this time of year you could find things going off quite quickly.

You should also "by rights" install movement joints every 3.5mtrs on that type of floor - seems overkill I know, but I've just had this discussion recently with BAL and TTA:mad2:

AND: test the tile before you commit!
