Hi all,

I am tiling a bathroom and i am about to tile a wall which has a sink unit (built in cupboard below) sitting below a window.

I am using rectangular tiles and I was wondering where to start to get the best finish.

I can think of 2 options with pros and cons they are:

1) Start from the sink unit and work up to the window. Pro's: looks good with full tile behind sink unit, Con's: cut tile running along window.
2) Start from window ledge and go down. Pro's: looks good with full tile below window ledge, Con's: only partial tile visible behind sink unit.

Does anyone have any tips? or can come up with another approach?

Thanks!

Nothing is installed yet, just all marked out on the wall where its all going to be. I just wondered cosmetically on they eye is it better to have a full tile starting from the base of the sink going up and therefore having a cut edge when it hits the window sill or whether to start with a full tile at the window sill and and work down but then only have half a tile on view as it hits the sink. I wondered what people think looks better
Thanks

Re: Best place to start....

Pros Get a PRO TILER TO DO THE JOB

Cons doing it yourself

Alot less hassle

Re: Best place to start....

you shoul be looking at both ways side to side as well as floor to ceiling to make sure you get a nice cut every where any pics? if your not to sure as above get some one in to do it for you, saves you time and money in the long run and yo will get a better job, thats what we do for a living

Re: Best place to start....

You cant just set one wall out for height, you have to consider all the obstructions on all the other walls too. IE Top of bath/shower tray, cuts into ceiling and floor, above door frame, above window reveal, boxing in etc etc.

Re: Best place to start....

Centre the room horizontally and vertically on each wall. And consider all cuts and how they fall to baths, showers, windows etc.

Have you got any quotes for a tiler to come in and do it for you?

Re: Best place to start....

Small cut tile at window would look awful! Go the other way, but as above, check all other horizontal obstacles on other walls too
