Wall tile adhesive advice

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Hello to all, I would like some advice please as regards what type of wall tile adhesive I require to carry out a small tiling job in a bathroom which will include an area which will be subject to a shower above the bath. The shower isn't a power type but an electric shower with no pump so there isn't a great deal of water pressure. The tiles to be fixed are 100mm square limestone which have an irregular surface finish and range from light beige to brownish in colour. The walls already have ceramic wall tiles fitted and to save a great deal of time and mess I was hoping to tile on tile using a ready mixed tile adhesive. The new limestone tiles will have a grout joint of 3 to 5mm. Thanks for any advice.

Put in the time,Clean up the mess and start afresh,Tile on Tile ain,t best practice and ready mixed
adhesive ain't suffice for limestone applications.Best to strip back prime substrate and use a
powdered flexi adhesive and a 2mm grout line if possible.

as above, I wouldn't be putting limestone tiles on top of tiles, its all in the prep work as they say, an extra days work could save you a whole load of heart ache in the future..

You CANNOT fix limestone with a dispersion adhesive... and stone tiles on top of ceramic tiles... well i hope you wear a hard hat in the shower 🙂

For an update. I completed the work and fixed the limestone tiles over the ceramic tiles using bucket adhesive from Wickes. The limestone was sealed using linseed oil mixed with white spirit and grouted with Wickes biege grout. All is fine after a good few years .
