hi all traveld to south london on sunday from nottingham to be told i could not start work as i had rigger boots on these are doc martins £80+ with the usual steel toecaps and midsole protection just be aware costly mistake for me plus the job is now behind ha ha ha😳

ive been told to change my boots before as their rigger boots. I think they are banned from all sites now, apparently its down to the lack of support at the ankle, ironicly you can still wear wellies on the same sites

on these riggers they have full ankle support ill have to paint laces on them then i might get on site again its all down to health and safty they think i might fall of my knees while im on the floor:lol:

I have just checked , and it is down to sites digression as whether they allow rigger boots, but it is not law yet for riggers not to be worn.

Apparently the sites that do stop the wearing of riggers, the excuse is lack of ankle support.

barr construction were the first to implement it,there is however an argument at the moment to do with asbestos that they are claiming rigger boots must be worn

it should be interesting to see when these conflict

I was told lack of ankle support when I queried it, I also pointed out the blue safety sign with a pair of riggers on them to no avail, fortunatly I had spare safety shoes in the van, no ankle support there either, makes me laugh

People seriously need to start looking after themselves a bit more. If I tripped on something another lad had left out and broke my ankle I don't think I'd be blaming my rigger boots. The rules you have to abide by just to blinking work these days is crazy. My great grandfather who probably was a miner would be laughing his head of if he heard what we have to put up with these days.

Imagine taking a budgie on site to check for carbon levels these days?! You'd be shot by the foreman for not sticking a hard hat on it and for not having a reinforced cage with mini budgie gas mask to hand. (Joke - clearly he not let you on site holding a cage in one hand because if you fall you only have the other hand to put out to try and stop you). haha

I think we should have a forum dedicated to the hassles and tips to get on sites!

riggers have been "unsuitable" in concreteing for several years. 2 reasons told to me are no ankle support and you can get concrete down inside the boots at the top.

Funny thing is Wellies are still acceptable.......

you have to wear flip flops and have painted toe nails now m8.

Did a Lidl store just outside Weybride once and the site was managed by a German company - turned up on site to sort out the job and all the site managers/joiners/etc. were wearing flip flops and shorts:yikes:

We were only on site about 2 hours when a little woman from the HSE turned up and cordoned all the site off and closed it down:yikes:

Weybridge has never seen as many Germans running around looking for PPE:lol::lol:

Stunner, I'd have thought the Germans would have been leagues ahead of us with PPE, just none of the stupid rules.

Was told about rigger boots a couple of years ago, 8 health and safety turn up on site.

Can't argue with that😳

Kev I ran over 70 stores Lidl, Aldi, Netto in the 90s. 1,100 m2 per store on average, HSE haunted us. I wore Riggers on every store , years later I did 2weeks for Bovis on Media City Mcr, and was told I had been doing it all wrong all my life no dust mask, gloves, eye protection etc. Yet my WII fit age is 21yrs I'm actually 58yrs Maybe I did something right . Maybe?

rig boots not rigger boots as in oil rig , quick to get off in case you needed to get into a survival suit :yikes:

Bovis on Media City Mcr,

God, Bovis are mental on HSE:yikes:

We had to get interviewed in our office (twice) just to get on their tender list:yikes:actually got a certificate off them to say we had been successful in being included on their tender list.....

Once sent lads to a job in Norwich for them and they spent a FULL day going through Induction videos, discussions, etc...

I agree Kev, About Bovis. But they have a point about safety goggles, especially with your eyes:lol:

Why do we need ankle support? Makes it so hard to bend your feet when doing floors with boots on.
