I never thought I would say this, but here goes.... I have a very old subbie who does my mosaic work, a few weeks ago he said to me that he was getting tired of it all (well hes 73 its to be expected I suppose). So we decided to get him an apprentice, as he is a font of knowledge and we thought it would be a good idea to train someone up.
We thought we had found a decent hard working lad who was really keen to learn....how wrong we were..
Day one Turned up late for work...
Day two Didnt turn up...his mum rang saying he was 'ill'
Day three Turned up late.....
Day four Asked for an advance on his wages
Day five Turned up late......
Weekend - Thank God....Im starting to pull my hair out.
Day six Didnt turn up, didnt ring, we rang him and left a message on his mobile..he rang back at 3.30 saying he had overslept!
Day seven..Turned up late.....
Day eight He asked for an advance on his wages again as he was going out!
Day nine He rang in sick at 10.00am (it must have been a good night out with his mates)
Day ten He turned up late...got mouthy with the site manager...got thrown of site.

There is no day 11, Id had enough...

Today he rang, asking if he was getting any redundancy pay!

Is it me? or has the world gone mad?

Do I get redundancy

At that age on day 2 my mother would have kicked me out the house if I was ill or not, not ring up and make excuses for me

If someone had given me an opportunity like that I would have made sure I was half an hour early every day and I wouldn't have dared ask for an advance!

My Mam would have killed me for being late for work when I was that age

The youth of today :yikes: :mad2: (That makes me sound old!)

Mine, too... doesn't bear thinking about...

You know what is the worst part, my mosaic man even at his age, always turns up half an hour early, works a full day, and last week asked me if it was alright if he went home at 4.00. I feel I let this kid loose on him and he ended up being more of a hinderance than help. Im getting choked up just thinking about it.

and his tax credits and loss of wages

little diddums id have bricked him up in a s***hoose and emptied a portaloo in it

an advance on wages, id have gotten slapped by my gaffer if i dared talk to him without being asked a question, as prev said half hour erly and back before anyone at luchtime to get ready for the men

when i was in the army we ran everywhere in boots, now its trainers, we got dogs abuse now they get red and yellow cards, true words, if they get shouted at they show a yellow and if they feel its went to far they show a red and they really have to back off

i can mind getting dragged behind a hedge and smacked for my cheek, didnt do it again tho

saw a bloke last week peeing against the war memorial so nudged him and wee went all over his clothes, have me cheek and abuse for pushing him so gave him a bit of a skelp for his utter selfishness
rant over

Blue and yellow cards, had a laugh about that:lol:
its true mate done a job for a sergeant in 3 rifles few months ago and he was telling me, its gone soft, they cant do what they did and break them down and make the into soldiers any more, if i got called a son of unwed parents once i was called it many times a day, now they cant incase it offends them, my late wifes sister was telling me her daughters school just had sports day and they all won so the losers didnt get upset, they dont ask kids to put there hand up in class now incase the thickos like me dont know the answer and get embarrassed

John,
Your right, I should have just knocked it on the head on day 2, this isent the first time we've taken young uns on and it always seems to be the same story. The worst is their mums! you get shot of them and then you get nothing but abuse from their mummys ringing you up threatening all kinds of stuff.
Thats the last time, Im taking on any kiddies,

talking about being a disrespectfull youth reminds me of when I was in my early twenties

I had a big bsa and used to blat about on it on a sunny sunday afternoon just for something to do, one day I pulled up outside a local park and sat on a bench having a smoke and watching the world go by, this old feller walked past a few times and then sa next to me

oy oy I thought you keep your distance perv or you will get a slap, he started talking to me about the bike and if it my parents that bought it or me, no its mine I saved up for it and told him I was a decorator, he then went on to tell me how lucky I was to be born in this time and in this country. he explained he was german but had been here since his teens. he then asked why I had an iron cross earring , I said cos it looked cool, he asked if I knew what it meant and I said it was something to do with the german army. sort of he said. do you know about the nazis, not much I replied

he pulled his shirt sleeve up and showed me a number that was tattooed the full length of his fore arm

he then went on to tell me about his time in the concentration camp, about all his family being killed, he was kept alive because he could work the fields, he used to be so hungry he would eat the dirt he was digging and if he found a worm it was devoured quikly before somene snatched it from him. he was brought here after the war to recieve medical treatment and remained here. we chatted for a couple of hours about his life and what happened to him and about the fascist movement, it was one of those defining moments in life that made me left wing politicaly and to oppose rascism etc

when he got up to leave asked if I still thought the earing was cool . I said no and he asked if he could have it and I gave it to him, that was the last time I ever wore anything like that

People so easily forget the past, my girlfriends family were german jews and the family history is thin on the ground

it really makes me angry when people deny the holocaust and claim its a conspiracy by the jews

we should always remember what happened and ensure nothing like that happens again

I know what that's like Mike. In my mid teens I was with some friends outside Brightons main shopping centre it was late at night and we were drinking and having a kick about. There was a homeless guy sleeping in the door way of one of the shops and one of the lads kicked the ball so it rebounded off the glass doors above his head, this happened 2 more times before the guy broke down in floods of tears. Although I never kicked the ball at him I was ashamed that I never stopped it either so went to comfort him my mates didn't give two monkeys but I sat down with the guy and it was clear he was a broken man, he must have been in his eighties and life had not been good to him and a bunch of young lads just adding to his problems sent him over the edge that night. He was Irish and he told me some stories about when he was a young lad and what our Queen (who he held responsible) had done to him, all the while crying his heart out to a complete stranger. I sat talking to him for quite a while and from time to time I think about him and the impact he had on me that day. He made me value my own circumstances and the chances I had open to me and how I should never take them for granted

with less than 2 weeks service in employment, you can get shot of anybody and they have no rights to any form of redundancy pay. if they're not up to scratch, get them gone asap.

youngsters have no concept of good work ethics these days. they get away with all sorts and just expect handouts to support them. I've done some bad things in my time, but everything I have now I worked hard to get through getting a job and paying my way.

the good people will always feel like this >>> :mad2: and those who just take from society will carry on doing this >>> :8:
