What is the consensus on D&D plasterboard techniques for walls?

Do you need to use screws as well as dot and dab when fixing plasterboard? I’ve read quite a few posts on this and only a few mentions mechanically fixing the plasterboard as well as dot and dab.

Is it that those in the know just assume one would know to add screw as well as dot and dab...?

Screw to stud walls/ ceilings and D&D to brick / block walls.

shouldent have to screw dot and dab,the dry wall sticks solid.
as above,screw boards to timber and that horrible metal stud,but no need to dry lining

I add mechanical fixings if im adding stone as the weight liits are only as good as the surface you are sitcking it too. If its new blocks then i just add one or two concrete screws. Old plaster i add around ten per sheet, 4 each side and 2 centre of the others but int he centre if that makes sense

I've never screwed any dot and dabbed plasterboard except once when a builder was informed from a supplier that foil backed boards could dabbed on the wall..

Bad idea and I could''nt convince him not to, so I did and they came away and had to be screwed to the wall..

Would'nt believe me but took notice from the supplier, heard that somewhere before.

i always mechanicaly fix boards that i have dot n dabed,just use the wedi hammer fixings, they have a wide plastic flange that clamps the board to the wall its better being safe than sorry imo.

Add to my post, if the boards are thermal backed then they have to be mechanicly fixed when dry linned
