Trouble is you will invariably need to cut battens to suit so I always use 2x1 timber. Wickes do bundles of 2.4m ( 10 in a bundle, I think) and I find its usually pretty straight if its still strapped up.

NickH yea thats what i'm thinkin not easy to cut a straight edge! but i guess if you had a straight edge + wood + batten stands you could save time on some jobs.

I've bought some of those Rubi batten stands haven't used them yet though i mean when would you use them? in a bathroom you either work off the bath or use battens screwed (can't put stands on top of bath?) Even if you did work off the floor u've got skirting in the way.

Kitchens you work off the worktop.

When I first saw those batten supports I thought they look brilliant but then I thought about when I would actually use them. Like you say there's usually something in the way. Probably great if your doing long straight walls.

To those who use levels how do you attach them to wall? drill wholes in them first then screw?

I use drywall screws and scew in up to the head of the screw underneath the level, nice and secure, or masonary nails.

Excatly what we use in the centre and like someone else mentioned, they are perfect to use as a gauging rod.

9mm ply - cut at Selco on one of those big horizontal cutters. One sheet of 8 x 4 will last ages - in fact a lot longer than I did ( ho ho ) Anyone for a slightly used Rubi TS60 something or other - (2 bathrooms and 1 kitchen use ) and some battens? ho ho. Collect only with free gift!! hic hic
