hi is hardiebacker board the way to go when tiling floors or should you stick with ply ?? i presume the backer board can be used on all different types of surfaces and meets requirements ?ie timber floors concrete etc any info on this would be great!

Look up James Hardie - tile backer boards.
Might be a link somewhere on here, but I'am not new and I haven't a clue!

It is one of the options instead of plywood, but your subfloor must be stable and no deflection.

ill have a pat butchers at the link thanks i guess its just personal preferance wether u decide to use ply or not i suppose it would make more sence to use ply if you think the floor isnt sound i suppose ! 🙂 thanks agen

your floor needs to be stable at the outset, from joists upwards terry. Hardiebacker board won't strengthen your floor but if it's deflection free it will be a better surface to tile onto than plywood. Also the minimum recommended ply overlay depth is 15mm whereas hardibacker is 6mm (plus adhesive bed)
