Hi
Just need advice. A tiler laid marble tiles for my kitchen flooring. It was laid uneven with a lot of lipping. I can feel the sharp ridges as I walked. I reported to him and initially he grouted it, then came and said he will use a machine to polish it. That machine made lot of scratches and still there was lipping. Then he took nearly 4 months saying he was ill and now used another fine polishing machine. The scratches and lipping has reduced but still persists. Also the shining has lost due to the scraping and polishing. I want 2nd opinion of whether the lipping or scratches are acceptable or not. I have not paid yet and how do I take it further.
PS: the 1st two pictures shows lipping and the rest after polishing to show scratches. The last 2 are the most recent ones.

I think you should speak to a stone refinishing expert who would have a vièw on this , but to be honest yes those scratches are removable

I can't tell to much about over all appearance of Job from these photos. What I can see is bad grouting and very bad attempt at sanding and polishing. He hasn't any idea how to do this and has made a mess of it

Hi Julian.. thanks for your comment and I feel the same. With your expertise, can you tell me why the lipping has occurred. Was it laid poorly or was it because of uneven surface or because of walking on it sooner before it had set. I did have underfloor heating but that was kept switched off for a while. Can the current state of tiles be rectified or it has to be removed and laid again.

If wire ufh? That should have been leveled to give a flat surface. Then an uncoupling membrane should have been laid and still leaving a flat surface to fix to. There would then been no excuse for lipage on finish job.
It looks very poor from the pictures and the grouting looks low which doesn't help.
I wouldn't have let anyone walk on it for a few days after laying, cleaning, first coat of sealer, grouting, wash again, dry, final sealer, then handed it over to client with cleaning and care instructions and instructions on commissioning ufh.
It's possible to sand and refinish the stone, but wouldn't be cheap. Before you consider that you need to be happy the what's been done will stay down over time
