Just wondered, who uses a tape measure to measure their tiles for cutting ?
I don't - just curious that's all

no only use them measuring up on estimates and when plying a floor and measuring how much to cut off a door

Sorry Wivers - don't understand the question ?
When tiling the only time I use a tape measure is to find the centre point of a wall or to measure my tile trim. All my cuts are measured by reversing the tile and offering up.
What diff does brick bond make ?🙂

for brick bond i get a pack of tiles split the box on the side measure centre of tiles then mark the full box at once with my square down side of tiles

What if the wall runs out at either side - as it invarialbly does ? All your cuts are hardly ever the same size exactly.

sorry dont understand your question? leatherface i only mark them on side so when doing next row up i can see the mark on side that sits above grout line on row below so the brickbond is the same all the way up then do the cuts either end after putting all the middle in

Yes - forgot I would use tape for finding centre of a tile for brick bond.
My original question was who uses a tape to measure cuts ? 🙂

Not me, reverse the tile aswell, if i ever do need to use anything it is a metal ruler, bit more accurate than a tape measure but rarely do i need to.

ahhh sorry didn't read your first question correctly my old chum. I only ever use a tape messure to messure cuts when there in a too tigh place to see my marking well enough.

Reason for my question was that another tiler was working at the same house as me today - diff room. He was measuring all his cuts with a tape measure. Didn't say anything, just let him get on with it.🙂

Offer up to the tile, mark and cut.

If a big room, then measure the top row and the bottom row to see how much the walls are out. If fairly equal, set the rubi and bang them cuts out. Good if no skirting boards are down.

With walls, pretty much the same thing, except you can check with a spirit first.

Yes.
If ceiling or corner is a bit on the wavy side then remember to use the last mark on your tile and copy across to the next. So on you second tile you only measure one side and so on - That way all the tiles match exactly from L/R or R/L.

Measure a job lot like this in one go, then take to tile cutter, saves toing & froing
Hope this makes sense 🙂

Use a ruler now and again, tape just to work out square metrerage of a room, use reverse tile method for cuts and the repetative guide bar for walls that are not so far out, cut a few at once
