Hey, just a quick question, something i have never had before, 'cause usually I cover the whole place in dust cloths cardboard etc etc etc to protect peoples property when i'm out on a job.

A bit of rogue adhesive has landed in the bottom of my clients new bath i have been tiling around. I noticed on Monday but due to a "small faux pas" I forgot to get it with a damp cloth - It will have been there 4 days before i get back, so I am guessing it will be rock solid when i go back on thursday.

Any tips on getting it off without damaging the £2k whirlpool bath? (unused, shiny and new untill i got to it)

Now I have remembered, it will keep me awake tonight worrying, in all my time as a tiler, I have never had this before.....

Thanks in advance, and hopefully after a couple of tipsters have shared,

It will just pick off mate, and I can't see a bath finish being fragile enough to be marked by it.

let it soak in water for as long as possible -

maybe try the up turned glass trick -
fill a glass of water and place a beermat or card on top. Turn the glass upside down (holding the water in with the mat) place over the blob of adhesive and slide the beermat out trapping the water in the glass on the base of the bath. leave the glass on the adhesive for as long as possible - maybe 24 hours and the adhesive will soften up and possibly even dissolve completely.......Jus like that !!

let me know how you get on

get a small piece of wood and try and scrape off. Sounds harsh but whenever ive done it hanst left any marks as the would doesnt scratch the bath.

Soften it 1st maybe, that would make it easier.

Ever followed a plasterer and had to scrape their remnents off????

Why thankyou chaps, in answer to several sub questions;

firstly getting a glass to hold water upside down over the adhesive, on the upcurve of the bath, could tricky :mad2: , best keep that idea for winning fivers down you local, :8: but thanks for the input nevertheless

, and secondly, yes I have had to clean up after plasterers, messy buggers that they are 😉, plaster is an entirely different entity, so what may work with plaster (vigorous rubbing) may not necessarily work with adhesive. (easy with the vigerous rubbing boys, you know what happens if you rub too hard)

The only real concern I have is the chap who's bathroom it is, is "an angry short guy" who has had to deal with the plasterer putting the corner of his trowel through his newly installed false ceiling, so his patience is a little thin already. So I just wanted to make absolutely sure of no damage.

Once again the lobby offers superb ideas that wouldnt be out of place at a science fair, I am humbled. (in short, cheers chaps)

should pull off.
if un sure hammer and bolster. no i mean fill the bath with warm walter leave a while then should come off no probs. only joking about the hammer and bolster.

Blue star then yes soaking will do the trick no probs...if it was white star then you should have been worried......

:whatchutalkingabout could he not just fill the bath up a bit?

short angry blokes are always going to be angry because they are short-just ping the addy off with a creditcard or something .dont worry it should be fine

why is he a shortarse? im a right streak of **** so tiling in small spaces can be difficult

New baths should still have protective film on. You sure it's been removed? If it's still in place - happy days!

There is but one solution for this problem... ANGLE GRINDER!!! :59::rockon:

Heh.

Seriously now...

I'd wet it first. If it's one of them glassfiber tubs from china, you deffo need to be careful. If it's proper enameled metal, you should be in the clear as long as what you use to scrape isn't harder than the surface. If it's cast marble, DO NOT use abrasive and/or strong cleaners when cleaning any left overs.
