Sealant for kitchen tiles

We want to use a small number of floor tiles as a splash-back behind a cooker in the kitchen. Do we need to use a special type of sealany for this job? if so, which?

Good question!! They are 30cm+ quarry-like floor tiles that we put down about 12 years ago. Having just refitted the question my wife quite liked the idea of using the few remaining tiles as the splash-back ... problem is they're not in a box and have nothing on them other than 'Made in Spain'!!

Do they absorb water...?
