Quick question for tomorrow pe

Hoe some of you lot are online 😱)

In the middle of a 600x300 rough porcelain bathroom. The walls and floors are matching with the grout lines running right through and matching up.

About 3 foot into the bathroom there is a step. The step is about 3/4 of an inch. I have no idea what to do with this.

Its to small for a slither I recon especially as it will be smaller than that when the lower level is tiled but they want it covered obviously, preferably with a bit of metal trim. So I can stick the trim on the top step what what can I do about the face of the step ??

Would you put a tiny slither there?

sounds like a trip hazard to me, can't it be leveled with the rest of the floor?

i would also bring the bottom level up to the top height, a 3/4 inch step in a bathroom?
makes no sense for it to be there.`

you mean with some sort of self levelling comound ? Or using addy?

I agree, trip hazard you could use trim back to back. but I would use a different coloured nosing to highlight small step. If you can't bring floor level Some slc can go 50mm deep

The whole floor already has 18mm ply down. The step itself cannot be moved as its a loft conversion and was put there for a reason. Below is part of a stairwell

I agree with Phil on this one, contrast tread nosing, otherwise after someones had one to many to drink they could go flying....umm it happens to all of us from time to time.

Nybor get back in your cage! You cant see every problem before you start a contract. But a good point, so I will pack my crystal ball into my bag tomorrow, for a pre-contract meeting.

Tis a fair point. But the builder asked to meet me in the morning as a last minute thing. I turned up and he said can I start right now an d I said yes and he dissapeared we were talking all of about 3 minutes just to discuss the layout and that was it.

However, I totally agree and will keep him htere next time until I have checked everything more thoroughly.

Are there any pics on here with what you mean about the double trim. ??

You could always create a slope up rather than increase the height of all the floor to the 3/4 step.. a small slope will be safer than a sudden little step up.

We cannot see what you do, so guess work as to what will look ok in this situation.

You can source a profile for almost any situation, but I have improvised in the past using L shaped stainless steel or aluminium, back to back. Sorry will try to get pics, to make more sense.

You can get preformed reducing trims from Dural, Schluter. etc.

Was tempted to chuck my last travertine job in JOTM but lost my bottle when I saw some of the other stuff lol.

Customer loved my work but to the trained eye - not sure I can handle that level of criticism. :smilewinkgrin: Think I will wait till I am a little better for that

I have used it a few times phil for certain transitions with stone, as it is higher finish than most ceramics, so handy for floor to landings etc.. and useful for this type of project but personally i think it might need siliconing down to stop muck getting under the flap.

Jotm is about sharing jobs, struggles etc. diferent materials etc. Not about winning, like this forum. Just taking part is enough, imo. Get those entries in for next month, splash back or swiming pool, it doesn't matter
