I know the Fein Multimaster is expensive (about £175) but the first job I did a bit of re-grouting in a sauna paid for it and put £65 in my pocket.I've just quoted for a re-grout in a leisure centre shower area and the manager says it'll be a nightmare job for me,I quoted £250 for it(grout will cost £20)he thinks I'm gonna use something like a rake but I have a multimaster and I know it'll take between 5-7 hours,£230 profit for a short day keep em coming.
My point is I know some tools can be expensive but if you can do one job that'll pay for it then you end up having a great tool that'll make you alot of money in the future whether it be a multimaster, washboy or anything else.Time is money!

Fein Multimaster and the washboy really are two of the most popular products we sell. It seems tilers who may have been reluctant to buy in the past are now reaping the rewards. They are being must haves for the modern day tiler.

Does anyone use the Fein Supercut out of interest?

defo gonna get me one of these soon!! they sound like an excellent tool. It'll pay itself back in no time.

I would definitely get one but I have heard some bad reports that when using the multimaster to remove grout it is very difficult not to chip the tiles, could any of you who have one or have used one give me your opinions please.

Bought 1 just before X-mas and used it yesterday and today. Re-grouting 2 showers. Messy but quick. Didn't have a problem with it chipping tiles.

yeah ive heard that problem with chipping tiles. i bought one and was going to advertise my services as a regrouter as well but after ive heard reports it can chip i never bothered, infact i lost a job only last week as the customer wanted bathroom regrouting and i said i wasnt able to do it. Just didnt want to take the chance of chipping the tiles........

Anyway the multimaster is class. ive just totally stripped my kitchen walls with it. fast and easy

Would it have anything to do with the width of the grout line that you are trying to renew? 2mm is quite tight, 3mm might just give enough room to do it. Just a thought!

Don't have a Fein myself yet.

Grumpy

Oh.........Neil. (buy brand tools)

Do you have any special deals on with the multimaster

Nice man  very very nice man

Wot

Yes it is possible to chip the tiles if you don't concentrate,it can remove the grout that easy that you stop paying attention. You can also scratch the tiles but this is all due to the tiler and not the tool.
Recently I did a big bathroom showroom, very high spec(toilet roll holders can cost £50)loads of porcelain.Finished the job and ended up being there for another 2 weeks because the fitters put fittings in the wrong place, scratched the tiles and broke tiles. They were always in the middle in difficult places to remove and thank God I had the Multimaster.Removed the grout very easily even 2mm joint Grumpy, then used different attachment to remove all the difficult and stubborn addy.
Tysfoot mate your crazy to have turned down the job, before I had this I wouldn't do any re-grouting now I 'm very happy to take the jobs, told the lads at Topps if anyone comes in wanting it done put them my way and they said they will tell all the other tilers too cause they say they all turn down re-groutig work so they'll get them to put that work to me.
You try re-grouting with a rake I can gaurantee you'll scratch loads of tiles and chip a few aswell, just tell the customer if they want any re-grouting theres always a good chance that some tiles might get scratched or chipped, they just have to except that. Much less chance with a multimaster though.
I took on board what you said a while ago Tys not many tilers will do re-grouts so theres an opening in the market, thats why I bought a multimaster from BUYBRANDTOOLS(I want a big discount next time)When work is sparce its good to have a service that the other local tilers don't have.

My fingers are tired now:sleep:

I will seriously consider buying one and offering this service, but we do really want the job so why not try persuade them to remove and retile, this would always be my priority but it is a good idea to have this tool and be able to offer this service.Incidently what is the smallest grout line the fitting will be able to remove grout from as i turned down a regrout only the other week?

I will have a look at my rasp tomorrow Brian and let you know mate.

is it best to go for the 110v version of the fein?? i mostly do domestic work but would swimming pools or pubs etc be classed as site conditions and law??

ed

I always buy 110v now, As long as you have a transformer its no probs. Turn up on a site and its 110v and you are stuck.

hi sir ramic

is there a going rate per meter for regrouting?? and does the rate include removal and regrouting or are they seperate?? just thinking that some customers might want the donkey work doing and then do the grouting themselves

cheers
ed

i luv regrouts and reseals , i use a dremmel with the grout remover attachment but would consider fein if mr brandnew tools can give us a good discount

as for trying to talk punter into retiling , sometimes cost puts em of.

i did a regrout last week guy was trying to sell his flat but bathroom grout and sealant was a mess and putting ppl off , originly got me in for a retile estimate but after i told him a regrout was cheaper and would make his tiles look like new again he whent for the regrout option, now this guy loves me for saving him money and will get me in when he`s moved to his new house ,

i always try to think ahead and not just go in and estimate for what they first ask for, talk to the customer and try and save em money , in the long run you gain mucho kudos and more referals

Just out of interest as everybody states DAY RATE, could you indicate the size of job im m2 and tell us what you charged for the complete job. Day rate is great, but if you have never done a regrout a ball park figure would be helpful, look forward to your reply.

Hi all, I bought a miltimaster last week after a call back from a customer. The grout had cracked on 2 of their bathroom walls I did a few weeks ago. He was happy if i just tried to fill the cracks with new grout but I wasnt having it. He had supplied the grout for the job origionaly and I should have insisted on flexi but went with the non-flexi as it was there (sily me). The 2 walls in question are ply, the rest are plastered masonary. Anyhows i got a fein ordered up and removed the grout in a few hours from approx 6m2 of tiles 30x20. Hoverered up the mess and grout lines to clean them. Regrouted and smiles all round. The gaps where 2 mm and no chipped tiles but you have to concentrate. I didnt take anyt payment when asked how much as i did know better so they gave me £25 of vouchers for my local by way of thanks.
During the week it saved me a few hours on the site im on, trimmed the bottom of all the architaves i would have been cutting round and the site foreman was well impressed with the finished look.

Multimaster, money well spent.

.
it just depends on how fast you work rick and what you feel is a fair price , as everybody works at a differant pace and what the average rate is for your area . in most cases somewhere between 80 and 100 quid perday or more in certain parts of the country. last one i did was a bathroom of 8m2 plus remove old Silicon and reseal .i charged him £130 all in, £10 for grout, £10 for bal micro sealer,£10 for Silicon remover paste, that leaves me with £100 fresh readies that the mrs grabbed soon as i walked through the door:mad2: :whatchutalkingabout

Don't have a fein but I do have a dremmel. Not great for grout removal, as it is way too easy to slice into the tile. Bits are also quite fragile and only come in 2 sizes.

Just make sure and get the tilers kit with the tool, it will be obvious what attachment to use.

these are a great bit of kit, but i am over a barrel with regards to getting the 110v or the 240v. they look like they would be mostly used for domestic work and i hate lugging the tranny around (que the jokes) so i will probably regret it and get the 240v

Still have'nt got mine yet............will be ordering in the next week or so:yes:

STILL won't be doing re-grouting jobs............ Oh how I hate them :furious3:
