Hi all,
I'm a newbie when it comes to tiling. I decided to have a go at refreshing the bland looking tiles in my toilet. I got all the old tiles off the wall to find a bit of a mess!
It looks like there was previously an old cistern with an external overflow pipe going through the wall (left of photo). There is a pretty large hole in the plasterboard.
There is also a different section of plasterboard that is recessed by 2-3mm compared to the existing plasterboard (centre of photo).
Any recommendations for the best way to make this good for tiling? I plan on filling the redundant overflow pipe with expanding foam. I'm guessing the recommended action would be to replace all the plasterboard, but it would entail ripping out the cistern and cabinet which I would rather not do.
The old tiling was in place since I moved into the house (over 10 years) and the tiles were amazingly well secured considering. Would plastering then priming be adequate? I don't plan on having heavy tiles and it is a WC only - no shower or sink so condensation/water should not be an issue.
Thanks for any advice.
