Dear experts,

I have removed a shower cubical and had a bath and shower fitted by a plumber. I am going to do the tiling on the walls. Due to the various hack jobs done by the previous owner I now have tile-on-tile thickness all of the way around the bathroom except around the bath where I have a combination of no tile on plaster board, no tile on plaster and single tile. I do not want to remove the old tiles (around the whole bathroom) as they are sound but I do want the new tiles to be flush. Should I use some kind of packing or deep bed adhesive to achieve this? I have tiled a bathroom before so I am not a total beginner but I would really appreciate your advice. (When I did the bathroom before I did it correctly and removed all the tiles first!).

Thanks,
Ralph

Personally I'd remove the old tiles but if you are really against it you could board it out to make it flush with the tiles. Hardiebacker, Marmox etc, they come in various sizes so you should hopefully be able to get it flush.

Is there any reason for not removing the existing tiles? You say you did a bathroom before and did it correctly, my advice would be to do the same with this one. Remove existing tiles, prep the room correctly, then tile.

I agree with the gents above, I would remove the old tiles but if you are adamant that you dont want to go down that route then have a look at different thickness boards.

Remove tiles for me too, that way you now what your working with regarding the substrate....
