Just saying HELLO!!!
I am new to this forum.... have been tiling part-time for a couple of years now.... but still learning a lot on every job. So hopefully I will pick up some tips & hints on this site

Hi Angelique, welcome to the forums. We also have a dedicated ladies only forum as well if you want to look in there. Might have to PM Dan (site owner) to get in there though.

Where are you based and where did you train?

Hiya,

I am based in West Cork Ireland.
Learned tiling from Reader's Digest DIY manual and 'just doing it'. There seems to be a real shortage of tilers in this area...
Started of really slowly (I think my first small en-suite bathroom took about a week or so.....) but I am getting better at it now. After I tiled all the floors in our own house (160 m2), with porcelain tiles, in a difficult pattern I felt I could call myself a tiler.....

Well, thank you.... but at the moment I am struggling with an en-suite: travertine tiles in 4 different sizes. The floor in the shower in sloping into the drain from 4 different directions...... oh yes.. and I am also 7 months pregnant so the belly is in the way...

I'm a fat bugger too!!!! But surely carrying heavy trav while heavily pregnant is not good. You need a break Me thinks. Here's a tip for the trav in the shower tray.

cut and dry lay the tiles in the tray so they sit flat, Then mark a line in pencil from the waste to the corners of the shower, cut along the marks and this will give you the fall to the waste. Down here we call it splitting tiles.

That's a good tip!!
I acually spend the last hour cutting templates in cardboard....
Tomorrow I was going to cut them.. and when all fits..then mix the glue and fix them... I think by now I have spend more time thinking about how to do this job than actually tilling. Can you charge customer for this?!?! (only kidding)
On the pregnancy thing: I am taking it very easy and will get the husband to help out. It has made me think about how men with beer bellies deal with this 'lump' in the way all the time...I suppose one could get used to it.......:whatchutalkingabout

If I have to split tiles in stone then YES!! I would charge for it but in ceramic I don't because I can cut the tile on the tile cutter.

I'm very glad your hubby is helping out

Dealing with the beer bellie DRINK MORE BEER!!!! Helps with the back pain
