new handrail and spindles .........

.......... thinking about finishing them with danish oil , i DO NOT want to varnish the wood and i DO NOT want to paint it , is the oil a good idea or not , if not then any alternatives ??

When I bought my last house the staircase was hardwood but had been painted :mad2:
I had a cabinet maker take it to pieces and restore it, it looked beautiful when reinstalled.
I am sure it was French polished. Not cheap but well worth it.

Why not wax it with Briwax? I have used this many times and its a great wax.

cheers , does anyone know if briwax can be applied over danish oil , lets put it this way , i hope so , i test oiled a pice of handrail i thought was spare , it wasnt :mad2: , its only £20 if not but annoying all the same :incazzato:

on the spindles there are square sections top & bottom , i know you usually have more square at the bottom than the top , but are there any rules or is it a case of what looks good is good , hope that makes sense :mad2: :lol:

go a bit more on the bottom than the top, but it depends how much height you have between string and handrail and also the pattern of spindle

about 25mm- 30mm is usually enough

bought a tin of FLAG wax from toolstation , well happy with the finish , half the price of BRIWAX as well
