natural stone border help

bit of advice regarding the above. i know it needs sealing . but what is the correct way to do it. seal before setting, after setting but before grouting etc?????? any help appreciated. also best product to use:stupid:

I would use an impregnator to seal it at least a couple of times before fixing.
If it stops absorbing the sealer then it wont absorb water.
I tend to get the client to get whatever the tile shop recommends. If they dont have any or its only a small border i use my own impregnator.

I would work clean and seal it afterwards or use a temporary sealer like BAL if your worried. The sealer is down to the client normally whether they want it to stay the same or they want the colour enhanced.

Deffo needs sealing 100% but you need to talk to the client about what sealer they want thats all. The customer is paying and its always best to ask what sort of finish they want. Once I know that I can tell you which sealers I would use. What sort of stone would help as well mate

Just personal opinion but i tend to seal stone borders and the like before fixing. Handier than masking off the tiles around the border and quicker too. Id seal floors post fixing but pre grouting, again as its quicker. What you think?

A lot depends on the surrounding tiles I suppose. But I cannot understand the reason for masking off unless I am missing something. If the surrounding tiles dont accept any sealer what harm have you done? Other than to seal the grout? If they do accept some sealer then you have still sealed the grout and it must do some good or:huh2:

I mask off to stop the odd splash or drip when im brushing it on. Plus i can do it quicker, lazy i suppose!

I never apply premium sealer with a brush!!! I always use a paint pad cut to size and apply it by hand in neat vertical and then horizontal strokes. There is never enough on my pad to get any splashing. Don't forget anyone who asks me to seal a floor with a Premium Sealer is paying close to £50 a litre for the product alone so I never waste a drop.
