Mosaic and field tile different thickness?

Often times we use a cedar shim because it cuts easily with a handsaw and we can whittle it to final shape with a utility knife. If we have a table saw onsite we might make something that is a little fancier out of 1 X but a cedar shim usually is good enough.

Didn't bother with template, spread addy for field tiles and also in the corners where mosaic was going, just smoothed this out and left to go off, worked a treat, put mosaics on next day, spot on.
