Hello I am Sue from Colwyn Bay and am sooooo confused! I have had a travertine tile floor in my bathroom - my tiler says it is sealed! The website it was bought from says it isn't - everyone says I should seal it anyway! I have even read that it should never be sealed - so I am here to try and find out - should I or shouldn't I!!

Hi Sue, welcome to the forums. The best way to find out if it is already sealed is to do a test on a piece of spare tile. Drip something like tomato ketchup on it leave for a few seconds and wipe off. If it leaves a stain then it needs sealing. And yes travertine should always be sealed as it is extremely porous.

Hia thank you grumpygrouter - not a mark :hurray:! Would you recommend something to clean them with please?

I think your name is wicked - I spent weeks scraping grout out of the tiles in my shower room - then I found that blooming home base had sold me a tile cutter instead of a grout getter outer - I was very grumpy!

Something to clean them with...hmmmm! It depends what retailers you have around you. try to get hold of something like Lithofin MN Easy Care cleaner. You may have to search around a bit for it but it should do the job.

Also if you do a water test on them...this will tell if it's sealed.....put a few droplets of water on them on leave for a few mins or so..wipe away and if damp marks are left they need sealing.........when you sprinkle water onto the tiles it should really bead up if it has been sealed properly....

Thanks Dave - I will try that too! This is nothing to do with tiles but you may know - it is a similar dilema loads of conflicting advice when I look on general sites. I have had a brushed oiled floor fitted in my lounge it looks fantastic and I don't know should I oil it or shouldn't I?? Thank you Sue:yes:
