hi to all tilers!
I'm thinking of retraining as a tiler. Am I too old at 48 and can anyone offer advice on courses to take?

Hello N2T

From the people I meet at PTS in Harlow it seems there is no age barrier. So as long as you are healthy and fit I would say go for it.

Word of caution: This is my tiler Derek (Below) who is 47 but his knees have gone through years of tiling and not protecting them. Now he can only tile in moderation.

He tiled my 37 square meter bathroom in one 12 hour day and was off for three days in agony with his knee joints.

So look after yourself

Hi new2tiling,

I have just completed a course at PTS Warrington, marketing myself now and got a couple of jobs lined up. I'm 49!! was and still am providing Accounting and payroll services as a sole trader but was looking for something different. This certainly is!!

Best of luck.

Hiya new2tiling,

Welcome to the forums mate. Have a wonder around the tiling courses section and checkout the feedback for the training centres - www.tilersforums.com/tiling-courses/

Good luck whichever course you take mate. It can be a big step changing career paths, hats off to anybody who tries it.

Hello m8 and welcome to the forums, absolutely no age limit to being a tiler however it does strain the back and KNEES alot, as long as your fit and healthy you'll be fine

hi new boy cant help with courses but if its tips and advice your in the right place and you too bloody young to tile good luck with the career choice :coffee:

WELCOME NEW2TILING,where about are you based?do as DAN says and check out the tiling courses link m8.good luck.

Welcome to the forum new 2,being a tiler dosn't mean to say you have to go at it at 100mph,as long as it's well thought out and done to the best of your ability, with honesty, integrity, cleanliness and respect, you can't go wrong. This job isn't about who crosses the finishing line first,it's about what standards you have set when finished.Quality will lead to steady longevity of work, quantity will lead to mistakes, bad reputation and poor self estime.I'm sure with your maturity you'll chose the right path ! regs Gaz:teeth_smile:

Thanks for all replies. Feeling seems to be 'go for it'! Have done some reasonable wall tiling at home, so feel could handle it as a job, though understand there's a lot more to it, and to learn. BUT, has anyone else started tiling at such a late age? And, how easy is it to get work? Looks like the course to do would be North East Tiling - bit of a way to travel though.
