Just doing a 25m2 plant room for a swimming pool. Using Heather Brown quarry tiles (ruabon)and I've got to say that the size difference is shocking:mad2: up to 4mm difference in some of them (they're 150 x 150's). Not only that, but they've also got twists and dips in them so it's like trying to tile with square saucers:mad2:
rant over!

I cant ever remember them being that sizey but I guess we were just used to that sort of thing. Its been years since I last used them . As for the twists and dips are you sure thats not your tiling Doug ???

will get some pics today Neale, luckily I decided on 10mm joints so it hides the size difference to a degree. When I put them face to face they're a long way off sitting flush with each other.

the heather browns i laid years ago were bent too. i had a right job to get them nice and flat, i'd get 3 corners perfect and the other would be higher or lower:mad2:. i thought they were seconds. maybe they're all like that

i aint done quarry tiles for years(thank the gods),we used to clean them with wood shavings.
grout up,wipe off, then scatter the shavings over them and rub like a madman when set, must of been a blinking easier way:mad2:

It is how they are.. always have been like this, hence wider joints normally..

Now Daniel platts simones were always square and sized very well..

heather browns, love them to bits, score and snap them on the rubi, always aim for a 10mm joint, when grouted up they look fantastic, esp if using sand/cement mix. The problem for fixers comes when they aint used to sizey tiles or dont have the ability/experience to "eye them", not everyone can do it, but creative grouting helps, seen them with an 18mm joint before, another story for another time though......
