I don't know if this has been asked before, but i just wonderd what everyone's most hated bit about the job is? I mean this work wise as in you can't say "The customers".
Mine is Tiling into/round windows.

Bad back and knees, all the reason to learn to lift correctly etc, and wear good knee pads, but you'll still get a dodgy something later in life I bet lol

Mine is windows also -
Hope you are charging extra for them & not in you meterage price. Makes it more bearable. Otherwise you will loose out.

Usually add around £50 - think at least an extra couple of hours labour on top.
How many metres could you stick on in the time it takes to do a window reveal ???

Once did a bathroom - had 3 windows = there is no way I could charge a standard meterage rate, I would have lost out big time. Was a very large bathroom - old house, 2 windows on one wall. tiny window on next wall.

Tiling over b.lox plastering, and being told to pack it out with adhesive by Mr Smith who reckons his son, daughter, dog and cat were tilers and they said it was ok

Hate it......

I used to hate the cutting in the cold on the wet cutter outside. Just those few damn jobs where there are limited cutting location choices, and the few all seem to come when it's -7 degrees!

Love it in the summer though totty totty totty, so maybe it's a nice balance overall lol.

Oh, and tiling over dodgy boxing in. I'd prefer to box-in myself in all cases. Hate it when somebody else has done it.

Trying to get floor joints lined up with wall joints all the way around the room. Now this isn't possible unless the whole room is square, but you tend to be able to modify a few tiles to get it near to perfect, it's just the working out which areas to select to have to 4mm smaller tiles or the 1mm wider grout goints or whatever. Hate them jobs. Have only done it for close family. Look spot-on when you manage it though.

Windows is up at the top of my list especially when its 9cm high and your working with 10cm tiles! Shaving a fraction of porcelain tile off each time gets on my goat especially when the sill is p****d.

Secondly is siliconing white against black if you don't get it right or the wall was really bad pre tiles it'll show up real bad.

Mr Smith out with his spirit level on his floor whilst your on your hands and knees next to him trying to get tiles down.

And I really have been in this situation.

HATE IT!!

Another one -

Watchers !!!
Those bloody customers who hang around and watch what you are doing for hours on end - usually try and chat to you as well.
Usually I put up with it. Lost my rag only once as the guy kept tring to tell me how to do my job. Threatened to pack up & go home unless he left me alone - he disappeared sharpish.

I hate watchers! You feel not trusted.

I also had a customer who never wanted us walking through her house and she lived in a row of terrace's. She made us back the van down the alley and go through the back door with the tools and tiles. Had to walk for ages with tools when we couldn't be bothered spend the 50 miutes getting the van near the back gate.

***** needs shooting!

Mrs Whatever from High Lane!

I had an asian guy who couldn't speak english watch me for the whole job of laying porcelain tiles to a hallway and conservatory.

Never said a word for 3.5 days, but watched my every move. Even followed me out to the wet cutter etc.

3 guesses why?

😉

i hate it when the her husband comes home....im sick of hiding in the bloody wardrobe!!!!!!!! even had to jump out of the bedroom window once......he he !!!!!!!

the last post got me wundering have any of yous actuatly pulled while on a job? i always have 2 have a look when workmen come 2 my house! ***

I wish i could say the same, but all my customers have been old and ugly.... still beggars can't be choosers ehh! 😛

errr...yeah its happened to me twice !!! got paid as well....for the tiling that is!!!!!! he he both were single !!

Had the cahnce a few times but they were mingers - my standards have gone up a fraction since leaving the army.... lol

ha if a customer came on2 youz what would youz do? would youz say no n risk losing the job? ***

Depends what they look like - if they were mingers, I would pass them on to my mates from the gym. Win-Win 🙂

depends on how big the job was hehe **blushes** haha no im asking the questions not answering them lol 😉
