Edit: 10/2009: Checkout the Fein Multimaster

I was wondering if anyone has ever come up with an efficient way of removing grout other than the normal Fein, Dremel or Angle Grinder etc.

I have recently quoted a job of 620M2 and I need to remove all the grout as well:mad2:

Get someone else to do it??

Why does the grout have to come out..?...

Can it not be cleaned to achieve the new look if that is the reason..?...

Dave good question! The floor has lippage all over it. The grout was not applied evenly to hide the lippage methinks! So therefore when I grind the floor some of the grout will be level but a lot of it won't. I decided to tackle the job by removing all the grout first then grinding it and then regrout and hone in situ to give them a total monolithic look and sort it.

A brickie told me the other day his boss has just bought a machine from a Danish company that removes pointing from between bricks quickly and accurately he felt it would work for grouting as well. Karl Dahm sell a kit that resembles an angle grinder which comes with guide rails for doing it but I would appreciate some info from someone who has used either of these.

My builder mate has also bought a mortar rake, but I don't think that you can get a bit less than 8mm. To give you an idea check out this link. Link removed
Being adventurous and practical I would experiment using a standard router and making up a guide for it. I found this out once when I wanted to bullnose some travertine....so tried a router and it worked a treat.
Hope this gives you an idea.
