I had the shock of my life today, I had been quoted a price for some limestone by a well known specified stone company, and found out they had also quoted in for the same contract to supply and fix. Their price to supply and fix was below what they had quoted me for the supply only!

Dual pricing stinks, and its on the increase, so much so in fact that if I see certain suppliers names on the M40, I return a no quote or propose an alternative source for the material. You have to fight them at their own game sometimes, which is what I did today. I cant wait to see their faces when company xxxxxxx ltd find out they wont be doing this contract.

They must have twigged by your request that it was the same job so deliberately tried to make you uncompetitive:thumbsdown:

Yep they knew the contract, I gave them the contract name and the architect, and requested the contract price. I didnt know until today they were also quoting in for it.

It should be one price for all companies quoting, this isent the case anymore. It stinks.

that is actually illegal I beleive. In contravention of the restrictive trade practices regulations. Not sure if it applies to small businesses the same as it does big business but If I was caught doing it myself I could go to prison.......:yikes:

It used to happen all the time when I was in the flooring industry with manufacturers, though they would never admit it :ban:it.

last year on a job where I was working the stone suppliers supplied some fixers, they were dot and dabbing 1200 x 900 x 25 slate onto skimmed plaster:yikes::yikes: for about £15m2:yikes:

Its one down here...I really wish I could do a name and shame, I swear I could write a book on the shady going-ons, on big contracts.
