Hi All

When you trim doors, just wondering what gap you leave from base of door to tiled floor (mm), can you also recommend a good would hand saw and or electric circular blade type, (just the blade).

Thanks
D

Found it handy to put a small pencil mark on hinge and opening side of door and also mark architrave same positions before removing door.. tile floor then measure down off your architrave marks then you know how much to take off the door.. usually take off an extra 4 or 5 mill so thresher slips in

My method is to measure from the bottom of the hinge down to the carpet to tile strip' deduct 5mm then transfer the measurement to the door. Measure from the bottom edge to the mark to determine how much I am taking off, then measure up on the opening side and put a mark of the same amount there.

Then I use a piece of pse timber, clamp each end with my clamps and run the circular saw through against the timber ensuring a fine blade is fitted then just clean up with a bit of sandpaper.

Quite easy really.

I go to the van get my best pencil out......sharpen it so I have a nice crisp point then write down the number of a carpenter and leave it with the customer. ...😀
Its what i mostly do, but if i like them, and its saves them loads of messing about and cos im a real helpfull guy, i will do it, im a tradesman, ive been doing it nealy 3 decades, if i can't plane a door i may as well go stacking shelves 😉

i give a 3 to 4 mm clearance and like some of the other guys measure down from hinge if ive got thick tiles like the 22 mm ones fixing today will use a hand saw to cut down about 3mm from my line then plain down with my bosch plainer🙂

It is to some....:grinning:

Agreed!

I've bowed to the pressure and have bought some wood butchering tools this year, I even fitted a door casing the other week :screamcat:😱

And charging £30 for trimming the door and supply and fit of door threshold bar 🙂

Always done threshold strips, haven't learnt how to hang a door yet, that's next on my syllabus 🙂

Easy on a square, plumb casing but after that it's all downhill Bri, just done one today where I've had to trim 3.5" and 2.5" top and bottom because its a slightly shorter casing and then retrim the top and bottom for stability as its a hollow door.
