Relayed a bathroom floor today after cracks started appearing in the tiles, the customer lost the details of the tiler that done it originally so could not call them back, He had laid hardi on top of floorboards and the cracks were appearing where the hardi boards joined after close inspection he had just simply nailed it down no adhesive just nails, Close but no cigar

they had worked loose and was bouncing around seems a shame went to the trouble of laying the hardi

I was under the impression you use a flexi addy even on concrete? Is flexi allowed when there is next to 0 movement?

Screws all the time for me....

Is it not a bit contradictory to suggest nails but sell a specific screw for the job? :banghead:

The nails are roofing clouts , the barbed ones.

And the adhesive is to fill voids and not actually adhere the boards down , surely you guys knew that.

NMP have their own screws. 1st 5-6mm cuts like a drill bit into the board to pilot the hole and the rest is then threaded that obviously bites into the timber.

I can't see the issue with not using nails ?
Surely nails which have been used for years on all builds are tried and tested !
I must of boarded 1000s upon 1000s of plasterboards over the years which have been tiled with no probs.
although to be fair, i use screws all the time now

think the issue was that there was no addy so there were voids as it was floorboards and the nails worked a little bit loose so there was movement = cracked tiles i feel if there would of been addy even with the nails the floor would of been ok as there was little if not any bounce on the floorboards
