Hi just wondering what the common practice for pricing for porcelain is.

Do u charge the same as ceramics? or a bit more? because they are harder to cut and therfore more time is required to do the job.
cheers guys

Generally I charge the same for both because there isn't that much difference in the cutting normally, unless they are a particularly difficult tile to cut dry. Heavily riven Keope need wet cutting I recently discovered!

I have cut plenty of other porcalain on my dry cutter no problem so no extra time wasted there.

The other time consuming bit is if you have to drill them. If there are lots of holes to drill you may want to add a bit to the price to cover the extra time and cost of the drills.

Also depends if they are polished and need sealing.

Hi Andy,

I charge alot more for pocelain sometimes double of ceramics some local guys should be along shortly to give a more accurate dollar cost in your area but as a guide $35-40m2 for ceramics $70-80m2 AU for polished large format porcelain plus cleaning sealing and polishing.

I dont think it matters if they are harder than ceramics or not. The customers seem to be under the impression that all porcelain tiles are more difficult to fix, and therefore expect to pay more....... I am more than happy to meet their expectations and oblige..... ie charge more andy, they expect it

I find people don't have a clue about porcelain and therefor expect to pay the same as 10p ceramics.
I normally charge the same for fitting, just extra for materials unless their very large format on walls.

If they dont have a clue Fekin then maybe we should educate them at the quoting stage, so that they realise that they have bought a superior tile, which takes a higher level of skill to fit properly, so obviously it costs more. If they want you Fekin, they should pay for you, but if they dont realise how good you are, cos you dont tell 'em, they wont know to pay you more....... just my way of thinking.....

I don't stand there rubbing my chin saying "ohh this is a tricky job, it's gonna cost you luv"

Im sorry, but while I agree that porcelain is a superior tile over ceramic, I don't really agree that they are more difficult to fit\lay in most cases, unless large format, then I would charge more depending on what it was.

Basically round here, tilers fit porcelain for the same rates as ceramics, so while I would obviously love to charge more for them, I know the job would most probably go to a cheaper quote.

Fair enough Fekin....... I however live in Ascot, and apart from the punters here thinking that thier sh*t don't stink, they sometimes have more money than sense....... I can help them with that lol:grin:

Don't blame you mate

£5 a metre more for porcelain, harder tile to cut and drill. The ones I fitted in a bathroom and 2 ensuites this week all needed wet cutting,my rubi 60 ts couldn't cope with them plus it took an hour to drill the wholes which also cause wear on my tools:thumbsup:

I charge £20m for floors and prefer porcelain over ceramic everytime!
It makes no difference to me, my TR 600 cuts em like a knife through butter and my rubi wet cutter and marcrist blase eats them as well. Granted there is more wear and tear and drilling is a bugg£r but makes no difference to me.

I do charge more however for polished vitrified porcelain closed up to 2mm as they need a SLC and a bit more time laying them for a glass finish.
