Hi there

I'm tiling my bathroom floor and will have 2 radiator pipes to tile round. When I start, the pipes will be unfinished i.e. I will be able to slide the tiles over the top once I've cut the holes. Can I just buy a tile bit and attach it to my standard bosch drill? I've read than I can mark out the circle, drill a few holes and then finish off with a tile saw/file. This would be ideal as I don't fancy buying expensive kit for 2 holes.

cheers

You can either use a tile hole saw or like you say carefuly drill and file.

Is this a chrome towel rad or a radiator?

If the towel rad then the 15mm chrome shrouds (B&Q sell them) finish them off nicely.

Floor tile will be hard to file, if you dont want the expense of buying a propper hole saw put a square hole in the tile, mark tile and cut from underneath then place the caps over the cuts. not a good pic but heres one: Nothing worse than seeing cuts placed back in place where the rad pipes are.

you can also cut a hole using a holesaw, probably 30mm as you need this size to go over any valves or nuts relating to pipes, fit tile and place the 30mm cut out back in place minus the 15mm for pipe.: looks odd but tidy in a fashion. can always cover it up afterwards.

Thanks for the responses guys. From reading a few other threads I came across Plasplugs and they seem to do a "Hole saw with arbour & drill bit" to cut a 35mm hole for £13. Has anyone used one of these? Seems to be what I need....

cheers

I thought you wanted to drill for radiator pipes (15mm) why do you want a 35mm drill bit.

The website said "universal pipe size" which I took to mean it would be fine for my rad pipes. Obviously not if they're only 15mm - thanks for pointing that out.

You need the Universal Drill kit from 365Drills Below

Radiator pipes are 15mm

Also contains all the drill sizes you need to mount the radiator to the tiles

You will need an 8mm core for the weight of the radiator
