I have had two tilers re-tile my bathroom. They left after 7.5 hours and said they would be back the next day to finish the job. However, I reckon the job needs to be done again from scratch. Your opinions and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi and welcome, sorry it's under difficult circumstances.

Mmmm, as you say, some of it at least is terrible, the left hand wall in pic 6 looks ok from what I can make out, the other is definitely a case of redoing the whole lot, everything is wrong from the setting out to the fixing, it looks like 2 men had different ideas and methods.

Shocking, sorry.

not good at all, cutting the cuts with a wet cutter as well means they aint tilers,or good tilers, tubbed addie as well

:welcome: It's not looking too good!
Have a bill ready for them when they arrive for the cost of all materials and how much they were going to charge, so you can pay someone else to take them off and prepare the wall to start again.
You could ring them with your concerns asap - that may result in them not returning at all!
Good Luck.

Woops.. not good is it.. one thing i can say is that they are deffo not tilers.. chancers after making a quick buck.. bad tiling and bad setting out..

confront them and let us know how it goes.

I should of send in my first post that I have just moved into a rented house (housing association) and it was their contractors that did this. I wont be charged, but fear they will just do the grouting and leave me with a bodged job. The tiles are sitting directly on the bath tub so no room for caulking. I am going to fight this untill they re-do the lot. I am shocked at the state of the work and more so at their supervisor who kept trying to fob me off.

Ah right.. house bashers... it shows.. tell them it is utter crap and ask that it is sorted..

Ah.. that explains the 150 x 150's which are the most basic/cheap tile there is and why the guys just threw them up, trust me all work they do will be the same. I hope you do get it re done though.

What a mess. It looks like the work of a £10/m2 untrained housebasher as Dave put it. They generally don't care enough to finish it properly, and because they are paid such a low rate can't physically do it quick enough to earn enough for a days money, they're probably new to the job, and you may get a more experienced one if you ask them specifically, and they may or may not do a better job, but really their supervisor needs to get this sorted straight away, it's disgraceful work, keep on at them though.

Can't add much, it's all been said. I will say this, if these jokers are tilers, I am a snowman.:mad2:

I agree. The supervisor knew it was a rubbish job but didnt want to admit it. The surveyor will probably do the same. I will at some point get a tiler who knows what they are doing to tile the whole bathroom when i can afford it. At least then i know the job will be done to a high standard with decent tiles.

I'm more worried about the lack of a 2-3mm gap around the bath, the rest is cosmetic but the lack of Silicon gap will lead to water ingress and rotten floor joists eventually. I see it all the time.

Tell the surveyor that.

I was offered this sort of work a few months ago by a company, I laughed down the phone when I heard the rates and distances I'd have to travel.
No pride in their job or work there I'm afraid.
Push for it to be sorted asap.

After 48 hrs some tiles were loose. There was no gap between the tub and tiles for caulking, like mentioned earlier. where spacers were used, the tiles were still not level. All this visible in the pics. The supervisor still insisted the job would look ok if i let them grout it, I refused and the surveyor insisted that the whole lot should come down and the job started from scratch. I will post pics of progress and hope that this time it is done correctly.

Thanks to everyone who posted, I'll keep you posted...2011-09-08 13.58.53.jpg

Defo an extremely poor job! Disgusted that they can even attempt to call themselves Tilers?!? Make sure you get in touch with the Housing and try and get them to sort it out!! It's a full redo I'd say! Good luck with this one and I hope you get it sorted!

On Monday I am getting the job totally redone. The surveyor from the housing association has assured me that he is going to make sure that the job is done to a high standard and is taking a personal interest in the job. He has been very apologetic and said that if they cannot do the job to his satisfaction then he will off load them. One of the gaffers from the contractors came to see the tiling today and he said that the job is complete ***** and there is no excuse for such poor workmanship. He was shocked at what he saw and apologised. I mentioned that the tiles are bowed above the bath and he said that there is a bow in the wall but they are only paid to tile and not sort the wall out.
