Hi All,

Just been to a tile shop and explained that I had ceramic tiles 235x355mm to put on plasterboard. It's in a bathroom but not subject to wet.
He sold me some of the above to prime the plasterboard, just normal plasterboard.
I get home and it doesn't mention applying it to plasterboard.

Can anyone tell me if it will be ok and if so what ratio for applying.

I also bought, from his recommendation a tub of bal grip wall tile adhesive. Again, will this be ok.

Thanks

You dont need to prime plasterboard when using bal grip tubbed adhesive, Had it have been an area subject to wetting like from a shower then I would recomend a tanking solution however if its dry as you say dont bother.

You dont need the SBR in this instance as you describe it, the size of the tiles is on the large side though for using a tubbed adhesive as it sets by evaporation, the adhesive behind the centre of the tile may not dry out properly as the moisture has along way to go to get to the edges of the tiles.

You may be better taking the tubbed adhesive back and swapping it for a bag of cement based adhesive, check the bag but you'll most likely be instructed to use an acrylic primer such as Mapei Primer G

Thanks Oli

I cant believe how tricky it is for me just to put some tiles on the wall before selling the house. I was hoping to avoid the stuff you have to mix yourself. For me that means fuss and mess.

Thanks for your help

Hi deputyg,

I thought bagged adhesive would be a lot of fuss and mess when I embarked on my first major tiling job (my own kitchen floor) last year. But so long as you follow the instructions on the bags, do your mixing outside or cover up the area where you are mixing and only mix small, usuable quantities at a time you'll do just fine!

Just try and take your time with it; try not to rush it.

It's a bit of a poor show from the tile shop when you specifically went in and explained what tiles you had and where you would be putting them. Get in touch with Matt257 on here. Matt works for Tile Giant and knows a thing or two about tiles, adhesive and grout

Mapei do some very good cement based adhesives and you won't need to prime if you are tiling to Gypsum Plasterboard.

You could use any of the following:

Mapei Rapid Set
Mapeker Rapid Set
Keraquick

There are a few others, but the above is what the majority of TG stores stock.
