Help! I don’t think this chrome tile trim is fitted correctly?

Definitely the best way of doing it. Yes it may take a little more time and effort but that's what separates the men from the boys! (Just to put the cat amongst the pigeons) I still take my hat off to those who mitre the tile on external corners and its something I would like to get into, maybe...

Oh no I think I have to start over.... do I?

The best option would be to build up the left hand wall to the same height of the next whole tile. Or at worse so you have a decent sized cut. Usually the height of the wall in relation to the tiles would have been looked at first but easy to overlook I guess. Just shear bad luck it fell where...

hexagon wall tiles - bad idea for beginner?

I would personally say that unless you have had a lot of experience with tiling in general then hexagon tiles could be a really awkward job for yourself. Working out cuts and setting out becomes more of a challenge with hex tiles. Plus you mentioned going around two windows. Had it just been a...

pls advise- best insulation, sub-floor and underlayment for tiled kitchen floor?

Hi, firstly cement board cannot be fitted direct to the joists so the first option would be a structural flooring grade chipboard or plywood * ideally water resistant. If T&G use glue and try to use extra screws and put in additional noggins if needed to support joints in the boards. If all good...

Pvc ceiling and then tile walls, or tile walls and fit the ceiling after?

Never done a pvc ceiling before but would make more sense to fit the ceiling first then tile to it, other wise you would have to be pretty exact with the ceiling sheets. Cheers

    egger chipboard flooring

Hi Bluesky, I've only tiled directly onto this flooring once before but it still doesn't feel right. Admittedly there were never any issues as I've seen the customer again recently. Would always rather overboard where possible. Egger just recommended a suitable flexible adhesive, my main...

Anhyfix fail on schluter ditra matt?

Thats cool I have a anhydrite floor tiling job coming up soon as well. So much conflicting advice out there. Was going to go down a similar route, grind floor, prime and fit mat using a gypsum suitable adhesive, then tile over mat as per normal. Some people suggest tiling straight onto the...

    Tiling over lath and plaster

I'd remove any loose paint and old adhesive first, then prime with some dilute SBR. Stick the boards to the walls with a decent flexible cement-based adhesive (trowel on not dot and dab). Then screw through to the joists.. can also tape any joints with fibreglass tape.. 6mm boards are fine...

    mixed material installation

Hi Regan just wondering why you wanted to go for a combination of carpet tilies and tile and not just tile the lot? Off course it is your choice, if going for the carpet and tile combination I would tile the area first and grout, then fit the carpet tile inserts. Could always "frame" the carpet...

Anhyfix fail on schluter ditra matt?

Hi Mr B, how long did you leave the adhesive before you tried to pull up the matting? And was the adhesive rapid or standard set? If green may take a few days to fully bond. Make sure the mix is slightly wetter and pull the mat back a little as you go to check coverage. 👍

    Tiling over lath and plaster

Hi if the depth isn't an issue and the studs can be easily located may be best to over board it.. have you considered using a 6mm foam backer board instead with the washer fastenings? Just quicker and lighter to install. I've removed a lot of lath and plaster before and hell of a lot of mess...

Help! I don’t think this chrome tile trim is fitted correctly?

Sorry but no professional tiler would fit trim this way it's just taking the easy option. And it still didn't line up great. The customer shouldn't have to state whether or not they want the trim mitred.

Tiling prices for ceramic vs porcelain vs mosaic vs herringbone etc

Hi Tom from what info you have given it may be best for you to set out different meterage rates for different types of tiles and layouts to pass on to the developers. My line of work is the complete opposite (I'm still a tiler by the way though! 🤣) mainy all private work dealing with the...

How to best manage the joint between different wall tiles?

Maybe just keep a 2mm grout joint was going to suggest a chrome insert but might look like the shower area was originally tiled then the rest of the bathroom at a later date as different tiles. Some pics might help 👍🏻

Tiling Rates Per Square Meter - How much does tiling cost?

I think some people may be looking at square metre rates and thinking we are on £500+ a day! Bottom line is for large floor areas if you can get a reasonable rate on the SQR MTR there is better money to be made BUT you are on your knees working so not something that can be done forever. I am...

    Drain too high

Only options I can see would be to take the drain to a metal fabricator and see if it can be cut down, have seen those types before they are excessively high. Or could the drain be set into the floor? If a channel was cut out first and water proofed, then the drain could be dropped in on...

natural slate stone patio laid , grout haze marks on stone

I'd get a nylon brush attachment for a hand drill, will try to attach a pic or link... if epoxy maybe use acetone? Does evaporate pretty quick though. Test on a off cut or area out of sight first. Shouldn't harm the slate. 1592426119 ... pretty certain toolstation stock them

    What is this surface?

Looking at the colour I'd say plaster, shouldn't make any difference if plaster or render. If using small ceramic tiles, just prime it first and use either a cement based or ready mixed adhesive. Cheers
