kitchen plinths

i know it looks a lot neater to remove plinths on kitchen units and tile underneath when doing a floor,
but who trims down the plinth the 20mm or so,
my joinery skills are pretty woefull
so does many people leave the plinths on and tile up to them?

No. Buy yourself a circular saw and trim that way, or even better a small table saw. Very quick to do once you have done it a couple of times.

I tried once with a jigsaw, and it went all over the place!

cheapo table saw does the trick no probs, paid 30 for mines and charged the punter 40 to trim the plinths lol

And its always best to trim the side thats hidden

I did my kitchen a few years ago and trimmed the wrong side - already had a slightly bowed edge on the good side

Anyone still use a good old fashioned hand saw:yes:

Jigsaw if your ok with it

Also, always cut the tp of the plinths.........that way if they are a bit iffy..........they usually can't be seen. Well. the tops anyway

I`ve just clamped a spirit level on the plinth and lined up the blade of a jigsaw and cut along it like that on a workbench, worked for me the spirit level keeps a straight line!

I have a trim saw with a fine tooth blade.
If you want to add a touch of class for the client add these to the bottom of the plinths unless they are already there.

I agree with CJ......use whatever tool suits you best, and cut off the TOP of the plinth, then they don't have to be perfect. Don't include the cost of this at the quote stage, wait until you have started the job, then offer it to them as an extra. It's very unlikely that they will say no then, and you tend to get away with charging a bit more because it's now an extra, and you dont have to be as competitive pricewise as when you are perhaps trying to win the job. The customer sees the price less and the convenience more. For the amount of time it takes to do, and the money you can charge, why would you not want to do it? :whatchutalkingabout

i see removing the pinths as a convenience for me, so i would never charge extra for it. Anyway only takes about 10 mins to do, once you have done it once its easy. Just use rip saw with guide rail

I just include it in the overall estimate. I tell the customer at the start of the job exactly whats needing done and the overall price, but i never add it on in the middle of the job as an extra as it actuly saves me time by cutting it down.

The only thing i would add on is if i was taking the bottom of a door £30. But i would tell the customer at the start of the job
