Hi Everyone

Can anyone explain to me what a thin bed solid bed trowel and a thick bed solid bed trowel is. Whats the difference between thin bed and thick bed? Reading up on Bal Rapidset Flexible and bed thickness is between 2 - 6 mm. If Im tiling a floor surely I would use a 10mm trowel so I am over the bed thickness of the adhesive. I dont understand - please advise. Any internet links appreciated, PDFs.

Many Thanks

Howard

Howard, these are trowels designed usually either for walls or floors. The BAL trowels don't have a square notch, they are sort of tapered and are designed to try and achieve a solid bed of adhesive i.e. 100% coverage. Thick bed is usually for floors. Half round towels are normaly classed as solid bed I believe.

PS I forgot to say, howard, the bed thickness you refer to is the thickness AFTER you have set the tile.

between 6-8 m2 depending on floor and tiles and also how far you lay your trowel over when spreading It might be more or less but that what gauge I work on.

True. And also depending on the adhesive, e.g. a standard tile adhesive has less consumption as a marble adhesive. Counting about 3,6 kg/m2 as a general rule should meet the most circumstances. Martin
