Here's another job that customer was unhappy with. A 'Professional firm doing a Professional job'!!
Fortunately they haven't paid in full and are now pursuing compensation, so I've been taking numerous photo's as I rip it all out and start again.
I have never come across such a bodge up in all my life.

Here's some more to wet your appetite.
The underfloor heating had been wired wrong so was always on. The electrics for the shower as photo shows and dowlighters in ceiling with no shrouds to protect the insulation.
On a positive note I was able to salvage the UFH.

im no electrician but i know the downlighters get very hot and with those polystyrene packaging things near them is a recipe for disaster.The window reveal looks as if its not been prep'd properly either and what can you say about that bottom row of tiling?

This is the feed to the electric shower.

This is after I lifted the 9 mm ply from the floor. Radiator joint been leaking for some time. Good old DOT/DAB, I suspect adhesive too dry and possibly not flexible.

Overplyed with 9mm, screwed at 6 inch centres but only used 18mm screws..........pulled it up with a claw hammer.

Im a sparky just been on here looking for some tiling advice and then i stumbled on these photos!!! That wiring is shocking whoever did that wants locking up!!! Hope they don't get away with it coz they would just do the same thing to other people and may cause somebody some serious harm or even kill somebody!

The customer has been on to trading standards, hence my photographic record as I dismantle the bathroom......only two walls to rip down tomorrow. As for the wiring the customer has her own electrican coming tomorrow at my request so that he can see first hand what a mess the electrics are in. He recently did a re wire on the place prior to the cowboys arrival. I'm sure that when he see's this he will inform the relevant authorities.

I'll keep you updated.

And as for the shower feed - shocking doesn't even describe it!!!!!

Hopefully they'll be reported as that wasn't legal in the 16th edition and now we're covered by the 17th which is even tighter

Half the problem is cost. A good tiler/plumber/sparky will go out to give a quote, and most likely have a portfolio of work etc so they can show the customer what they've done. Then a cowboy will come along and give a quote for half that price. I'd say about 80% of the time they go for the cheaper quote, get a really poor job, then end up having to ring the guy they rang first time to come and sort it out.

The other half is that most of these cowboys usually have really slick adverts in local rags and local radio, so customers ring them up, get a quote and think "thats a good price, I'll go with them".

Not only that, but most of the time these people are at work etc, and never see what actually happens while the job is going on. It's scary how many "pro" tilers out there still think that "waterproof" adhesive is good enough for tanking a shower area, or that PVA is still acceptable to be used as a primer.

seeing too many jobs like this recently, porc/marble stuck with standard set or fix'x'grout, kin unbelieveable, and in good middle class peeps houses! down to cheapo collapso prices, and when you tell em how much to repair it all........

Some of that insulation around the light fitting is fire retardant but the polystyrene certainly isn't and as for the 2.5mm feeding the shower :yikes:. I'm sure they could sue for the electrical work, it's why part P was brought into force.

Next comes the toilet, well.... SNAP

The work was carried out by an established company at a cost of £3750 + vat so I have since found out. The also came on a recommend.
The sparkies who rewired the house originally are back in tomorrow to sort the mess out at a cost of £1000. I'm hoping that the customer will pursue the company and I for one will give her every help that I can.
I've started re tiling now so will post some updated pictures tomorrow.

I would be inclined to say that some people blame trades when they have had a go and failed miserably. Not saying they are all bullers but ...

Its easier sometimes to blame a fictional character than holding your hand up and saying I had a go but I was poo.

I know you mentioned the invoice on this one so I was not referring to the actual job in question just the other stuff the regulars on here mentioned.

Yesterday I was in a Youngs pub in London working on a corporate event. The landlord told me the brewery had spent £80K on this lovely pub's upstairs. There are some lovely original Vic mosiacs downstairs, and dark panneling heavy doors on with the original windowe etched 'Ladies Bar' - really cool.

Until you went into the gents. Dear me it was dreadful. For example, they had not taken off the radiator and tiled around it and the thermostat was set some way into the tiles. It looked awful. I pulled the landlord on it and he said that this was done before the renovation. What is the point of having 2 beautiful restaurant/private dining rooms with a gents that would not look out of place in a shanty town.

It was the Mitre by the way in Lancaster Gate. If you get the chance pop in for have a pint, the landlord is a great fella the food is good and the mosiac is worth a look.
