which knee pads ..?

HI, I am about to spend most of august on my knees laying floor tiles.
I want to buy a new set of knee pads as the cheap ones I had were rubbish.
Anyone got any particular favorites or think certain ones are the best buys ?

i have similar ones as DH (looks wise)...its got the plastic waterproof cover and gel inside...ties around knee with velcro....but mine were £4.99 from a local shop and are BlackSpur make. There must be some difference in quality due to the big price difference. I dont do that much tiling but its been ok for me so far. When you say cheap, how cheap ?

It all depends on the individual.

I have got 3 pairs of knee pads, from the gel type as mentioned above.........to the cheapys. Also got the trousers with the pads that slip into the knee pockets.............But i still find I use the old green gardening foam mat most of the time.........it just gets kicked around were its needed.

Just try different kinds..........and your'll find one that suits

i allways use a foam mat. I find knee pads cut into the backs of my legs and slip down my legs. The mat i use is a rubi one, and its proper comfy. I got mine from millcott tools, which most of you wont be able to buy from, as its not for retail customers, but they should have them in decent tiling shops. Failing that most diy places will probably have cheaper gardening ones.

another thing to bear in mind actually with knee pads, is if your laying a victorian style floor, then dont use the knee pads with the plastic caps on them, as they scratch the tiles. Learnt that one the hard way!

Knee pads hurt the back of my knees. I just got myself a pair of the dewalt trousers with the knee pads in them, bloody marvellous!!! Best thing I have ever bought, been on my knees the last 4 days and my knees feel fine, highly recommend them!

them dewalt trousers are bloody good. got a pair of them myself. Really strong material as well, and lots of pockets and loops. Theyre expensive, but definatly worth the money. i often use them with my mat as well, just for extra comfort.

pricey, but worth the money in my opinion. Really hard wearing, lots of pockets and loops. and pretty comfy knee pads.

Ive always had snickers trousers myself, been looking at them dewalt ones lately though coz need a new pair. I find trousers with knee pad pockets are so much easier than strap on knee pads as they rub behind my knees and get uncomfortable whereas trousers with pads are more convenient.
Never buy cheap when it comes to these types of tools, my mate had to have 2 new knee joints and you wouldnt believe what it cost him!!! Same goes for goggles/glasses, you only get 1 pair of eyes!

£30 isnt expensive for a pair of dewalt trousers there brill i pay £100-150 for a pair of jeans no wonder am always skint...i have three pairs of knee pads and there all rubbish so if i was you get the trousers

I use pipe lagging, cut it into about 2ft lengths, you will need about six pieces and put them all together then wrap them in gaffer tape..works a treat

Yeah, i've got those, bloody expensive but really comfy. Also there's a knee cushion from the same designer for half the price. Personally i think you should invest in the best, you only get one pair of knees.

I have,nt had any problem with the strap rubbing on the back of the knees like other knee pads Ive used over the years, The knee cushion looks a good idea may try that myself

Don't want to hijack this post but does anyone else get knackered big toe "knuckles" from kneeling? I find the skin on my big toe joints gets all tough and cracks and hurts from kneeling.

If not - don't worry it's just me - I'm a freak!

I've used the Dickies one and the pads do move around alot.

I haven't had the same problem with my Snickers trousers - they are in a different league altogether (quality and price )
