Was out on my bike at 7.30am today with a few mates, it was such a fantastic morning bit frosty but by about 9am the sun was shining and it was beautiful cycling along the coast roads...havent been out since exmas due to man flu.

How many have got insurance that will cover you for time off work!
I don't wish to be a killjoy and in my youth I cycled a tandem to Spain and in 1980 organised/cycled a triplet from John O'Groats to Lands End.

But a joiner who works with a Bathroom Co. I work alongside broke his neck in Kielder Forest mountain biking 6 months ago.
He's walking around with a neck brace, will not be signed off the sick till May and is struggling with the finances.

It can happen to anyone at anytime - but when you know someone that it has happened too, you step back and think - Take care.

Good point there John, i have accident insurance and they say i'm covered as long as it's not downhill racing,lol.

surely a racing bike would be more suffice to your area? how many mountains you got in hertfordshire?

very true Mike there are no mountains in this area ,I am just an occasional rider not even an enthusiastic hobbyist its why i only have a cheap and cheerful trek which is fine for my needs

Gary, that bike was bought by a lad in 2008 for £999, He took it apart and spent just over 1k upgrading it.
He has 4 mountain bikes and i believe is the top uk sales man for a well known tractor company(well for some,lol). civil bloke.
He advertised it in 2010 on the NI MTB forum and i snapped it up real quick,a bargain at £500 i kid you not.
It was really well looked after so i have to keep it like that.
My last outing was near 8 weeks ago after dark with 7 other bikers in the local forest, mud bath all round and 12 miles of heaven with lights on helmets,lol.
When home i pull it from back of van and take the hose to it, i keep it indoors so dries quick then i rub it down and oil the main parts, a beauty to ride and i think i'll meet up with Ed for a spin some day maybe up in scotland or North Wales,lol.

got a new camera today, so there'll be no stopping me now!!

just a quick one for anybody who is thinking of buying a mountain bike....go for a 2010 model because for some reason, they are not only considerably cheaper than the 2011 models, they are mostly better spec'd!! I saved £300 on the marin and over £150 on the giant...

no doubt i'll be left with the job of cleaning mine, the wifes and the 2 boys. i have a little 2 yr old too, so i need a trailer for the wife to pull him along :smilewinkgrin:
