I got my lease hire from them 4 years ago. Rang to ask for details on the balloon payment due in a month and they said i have to sell it private , they won't buy it

Leasing companies don't want trade ins. In fact they don't really want the lease van back either!
Sell it privately. You will get a better price. And try and coincide selling it with the new van arriving.
