Hi,

Im doing a job where the customer tells me that the floor has 30 year old plastic tiles in the poach area which he wants tiled on top off, because he says they are virtualy impossible to get up.
Can anyone let me know whether i can tile on top of these old tiles or shall i try to get these tiles up before tiling.

Thanks

Hi and welcome..

Be careful as ones of that age might contain asbestos...

If they are solid, you could slurry coat them and tile over.

Thanks for your reply dave.

what do you mean by slurry coat them. Is there a chance the old tiles may move when tempertures change because they are plastic.

Thanks.

That depends on the substrate.. I wouldn't take the customers word that they will not come up.. but like i said becareful...

A slurry coat is a mix of SBR and cement or adhesive mixed 50/50 and applied as a bonding coat but the best practise is to remove the tiles if possible..
