Tiling around plug sockets

Hi,

I am going to tile around my plug sockets. Is it best to take the fascia off and tile up to the box on the wall. Then to put the fascia back on so the fascia sits on the tiles? I find that not all plug sockets (in older buildings) are level with each other or work tops. Therefore you can not tile around them due to grout lines. I have taken into consideration moving the datum line but because of the size of tiles this will not work. Please advise on best way.

Hi,
i would sort your sockets so they are all at the same height, there is nothing worse looking than sockets not lining up.
They are not hard to move even if they are fixed to a brick wall.
Take your Fascia plates off & tile flush to your box.

Yes, definately tile behind the fascias, best to turn off the leccy first though🙂

Not all sockets can be moved due to cable length..


As above you need to loosen off and tile to back box shape and then tighten back up the fascia's once adhesive is set..

You may need longer screws too

before you undo facia draw round in pencil so when you take facia off you can see what you need to cut inside

tiling around them just looks tacky in my opinion i would remove the socket facias an as above tend to pencil round them

Definately tile behind the facias...and as mentioned earlier, try to get them all the same height. If they are the fancy metal style facias I tend to protect them by taping paper over them...it stops the customers complaining about marks on them and if you do it right it also covers the connections at the rear making them safe.
